Every World Cup needs an underdog story. Not for the first time, it’s the Pacific island of Fiji warming hearts at rugby’s showpiece. The Flying Fijians, as they are monikered, beat two-time champion Australia on Sunday for the first time in 69 years and the first time at the Rugby World Cup, sending a ripple of joy through a tournament that has seen most outsiders get a predictable pounding from the big dogs in the first week-and-a-bit of action in France.Defending champion South Africa hammered Romania 76-0 on Sunday, while New Zealand did away with Namibia 71-3 on Friday night. But Fiji’s uplifting result on the second weekend — which actually was half-expected given the islanders’ recent rise — at least keeps the top teams on their toes and everyone else believing that there’s always a chance.FIJI TAKES OFFThe Fijians have always been everyone’s favorite longshots at the Rugby World Cup due to the way they play, an inventive, ad-libbing attack-f...Reality bites for Wallabies coach Jones after Fiji nightmare at the Rugby World Cup

SAINT-ETIENNE, France (AP) — Monday rolled around and Australia coach Eddie Jones joked that he hoped Sunday had just been a mere nightmare.A nightmare in which Fijians kept pickpocketing his Wallabies and souvenired a Rugby World Cup win from them for the first time.“I woke up in the morning hoping the result was different but it was still the same,” Jones said.Another reality bite was confirmation that captain Will Skelton and tighthead prop Taniela Tupou will also miss their suddenly must-win pool game against Wales on Sunday in Lyon. Hooker Jordan Uelese was also stood down for 12 days because of a head injury after coming off the bench against Fiji.Skelton and Tupou were injured in training last week, and their absence was a blow to a young Wallabies side which was outhustled by Fiji 22-15 in Saint-Etienne. Fiji last beat Australia in 1954, before Elvis Presley had a hit record. The Wallabies must beat Wales next or they face not advancing from a Rugby World Cup pool for t...Four of nine juveniles who escaped from Pennsylvania detention center are now in custody, state police say

Esto es lo que hay que ver

(CNN) — Después de miles de discursos, reuniones y recepciones la próxima semana en la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas, (UNGA), las ONU está preparada para anunciar la Paz Mundial al final del evento global… OK, no.Ojalá. The cheeseburger was (maybe) invented in Denver

DENVER (KDVR) — If you find yourself craving a cheeseburger on National Cheeseburger Day, you might want to thank the denizens of Denver's past. That's because the mouthwatering American staple was actually invented in the Mile High City. Or at least that's the claim. DENVER (KDVR) — For people jumping on the University of Colorado Buffaloes bandwagon, most of the questions probably revolve around the eccentric head coach.Often seen wearing sunglasses and a cowboy hat, Coach Prime has helped bring the Buffs from a 1-11 record last season to a top 25 AP-ranked team. Shedeur Sanders sparks No. 18 Colorado to thrilling 43-35 win over Colorado State in 2 OTs But his claim to fame didn't come from his coaching. In 1989, Deion Sanders was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft out of Florida State and played 14 seasons with five different teams. (CNN) — Unsure what to pack from your wardrobe for a vacation to Japan? If you’re flying with Japan Airlines, the answer could be nothing at all.Japan’s flag carrier has started a year-long trial of a service that allows travelers to book a set of clothes — covering different sartorial styles and seasons — and receive it at their hotel upon arrival. At the end of the stay the clothes are returned, to be washed and cycled back into the system.Called Any Wear, Anywhere, the service runs through the end of August 2024 and Japan Airlines says it could cut carbon emissions by reducing the weight carried by its airplanes.Any Wear, Anywhere estimates that about 22 pounds (10 kilograms) saved in luggage equals about 16.5 pounds (7.5 kilograms) saved in emissions — the equivalent of running a hair dryer 10 minutes a day for 78 days.“I love traveling and I’ve been to many foreign countries, but I’ve always dreaded dragging around luggage or doing laundry abroad,” says Miho Moriya, who came up...Pro-EU politicians planning coup, Georgia alleges

Georgia’s national security agency claims it has discovered a Ukrainian-backed plot to overthrow the country’s increasingly pro-Russian government, just weeks before a highly anticipated verdict on its long-standing application to join the EU.In a briefing on Monday, Bacha Mgeladze, deputy director of the counterterrorism unit of Georgia’s State Security Service, alleged that “conspirators are preparing to overthrow the state” on the basis that Brussels will issue a negative opinion on its membership bid as part of the bloc’s enlargement plans in October. While Mgeladze provided no evidence to support the explosive assertions, he named a number of senior opposition politicians tied to jailed former President Mikheil Saakashvili who he claimed were behind the plot, as well as Kyiv’s “deputy head of military intelligence.” According to Mgeladze, volunteers from the Georgian Legion currently fighting against Russia in Ukraine would h...Latest news
