Notably, the falafel was sold in 35 states and Washington, D.C., but apparently not in California. If the latest recall sounds familiar, just four days ago, the chain said two types of cookies also might have rocks, recalling both items. The cookies include Trader Joe’s Almond Windmill Cookies (SKU# 98744) and Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies (SKU# 82752).Trader Joe’s said its supplier alerted them to the rocks in the treats and the falafel.Related ArticlesRetail | Second Harvest to launch ‘Food As Medicine’ initiative to screen people for food insecurity Retail | Oakland Zoo unveils a chocolate bar full of what ...

‘That’s me!’: Turpin adult son makes rare appearance in open court “That’s me!” Jonathan Turpin exclaimed, thrusting his hand into the air in a near-empty courtroom after being introduced by his attorney to Superior Court Judge Kenneth Fernandez. The appearance at the Historic Courthouse in Riverside on Friday, July 28, was a rare one by any of the 13 Turpin children in open Probate court since their rescue in January 2018 from years of torture and neglect by their parents in their Perris home.In April 2019, David and Louise Turpin were each sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison following guilty pleas to six counts of dependent adult abuse, four counts of false imprisonment, three counts of child endangerment and one count of torture. The plight of the 13 children, whose ages ranged from 2 to 29 at the time, came to light and shocked the country on Jan. 14, 2018, when 17-year-old Jordan grabbed a brother’s deactivated cell phone, snuck out a bedroom window and called 911. He let the man know paramedics were on the way.“Alright sir, we’re going to send help,” the unnamed dispatcher said. “Don’t hang up, sir. Don’t hang up.”The dispatcher stayed on the phone with the caller for less than a minute, but that was all that was needed to ensure Bronny James, the 18-year-old son of NBA superstar Lebron James who recently joined USC’s men’s basketball team, was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Monday, July 24.The younger James was “successfully treated for a sudden cardiac arrest,” the hospital said in a statement.Hospital officials also credited USC athletics’ medical staff for a “swift and effective response” when James collapsed on Monday during a basketball prac...

US unveils $345M arms package for Taiwan, in move sure to anger China The Biden administration announced a $345 million weapons package for Taiwan on Friday, the first tranche in a total of $1 billion the U.S. has allotted to be transferred directly from Pentagon stockpiles to the island this year. The move is sure to anger China as Washington has been trying to rebuild relations with Beijing. Senior administration officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, recently visited China, but the outreach has done little to quell tensions over a range of issues, from U.S. support to Taiwan to Beijing’s spy balloon program.“We take our responsibilities to Taiwan and to improving their self-defense capabilities very, very seriously,” John Kirby, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, told reporters ahead of the announcement on Friday. The package marks the first time the U.S. has used new authority from Congress to transfer military equipment directly from Pentagon inventory to Taiwan.
