TALKEETNA, Alaska (AP) — National Park Service rangers are searching for a climber who fell from a 16,000-foot-high (4,800-meter-high) ridge at Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska, officials announced Saturday. The climber’s partner told rangers early Saturday morning the fall occurred Friday night while they were on a route known as the West Buttress to Peters Glacier, the agency said. The partner saw the fall but couldn’t see where the climber came to rest.Rangers began an aerial and ground search for the climber, but cloudy weather conditions prevented a helicopter from accessing the climber’s location, officials said. The ground search was based at Denali Base Camp, at 14,000 feet (4,200 meters). The incident comes just over a week after two climbers who went missing at the park were presumed dead. Denali is a 6-million acre (2.4-million hectare) park about a 120-mile (193-kilometer) drive north of Anchorage.SourceArgentina tops Uzbekistan, US beats Ecuador in injury time at U20 World Cup opener

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — An injury-time goal gave the United States a 1-0 win against Ecuador in one of the opening matches of the Under-20 World Cup on Saturday. Hours later, host Argentina beat Asian champions Uzbekistan 2-1.While the Argentinians go to the top of Group A on goal difference, team U.S. ended the first round of the tournament in second place in Group B after Slovakia beat Fiji 4-0.The American victory in San Juan came after 90 minutes of little inspiration from both teams. Left back Jonathan Gomez shot from the edge of the box one minute before the final whistle to beat goalkeeper Gilmar Napa. Until Gomez’s winner, the best opportunity was on the hour after an embarrassing mistake by Ecuador’s Napa. His clearance hit his defender Christian Garcia in the face. The ball fell to American striker Diego Luna, who shot wide despite the empty goal.Ecuador, which includes teenage sensation striker Kendry Paez, did not produce a single shot on target. The fi...PGA Live Updates | Brooks Koepka surges into lead through 3 rounds at the PGA Championship

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — Brooks Koepka has fired a second straight 4-under 66 to surge into the lead through three rounds at the PGA Championship.Koepka let a chance to win the Masters get away in the final round at Augusta National last month. He’s responded with three solid and occasionally spectacular days of golf at rain-soaked Oak Hill to put him in position to win the fifth major of his career.Playing with former rival turned fellow LIV Golf member Bryson DeChambeau, Koepka made five birdies and one bogey during the third round, moving into the lead when he rolled in a 45-foot putt on the par-4 17th.Koepka is at 6 under for the tournament as he chases his third PGA Championship.Viktor Hovland is one back at 5 under following a 69, alongside Corey Conners, who shot 70. Conners led for much of the day before a shot out of a fairway bunker on the par-4 16th smacked into the lip and became plugged. He made double bogey. Conners is seeking to become the second Canadian man to w...Bob Baffert’s National Treasure wins Preakness, hours after of his horses was euthanized

BALTIMORE (AP) — Bob Baffert choked back tears and his voice cracked while he tried to juggle the conflicting feelings of seeing one of his horses win the Preakness Stakes hours after another was euthanized on the same track.“This business is twists and turns, ups and downs,” the Hall of Fame trainer said. “To win this — losing that horse today really hurt. ... It’s been a very emotional day.”National Treasure won the Preakness on Saturday in Baffert's return to the Triple Crown trail following a suspension, ending Kentucky Derby champion Mage's Triple Crown bid in the race Baffert has now captured more than any other trainer. WASHINGTON (AP) — Debt limit negotiations between the White House and House Republicans hung over the weekend with tough talk but little action, as President Joe Biden and world leaders watched from afar hoping high-stakes discussions would make progress on avoiding a potentially catastrophic federal default. In a sign of a renewed bargaining session, food was brought to the negotiating room at the Capitol on Saturday morning, only to be carted away hours later. No meeting was expected. It was another start-stop day with no outward signs of progress, though talks could step up again Sunday. The Biden administration and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., are racing for a budget deal that would pave the way to increase the nation’s debt limit. Republicans are demanding steep spending cuts that Democrats oppose as too severe.
