A former Los Angeles Police Department officer has been convicted of raping a woman while off-duty in 2015.William Rodriguez, 38, was arrested in July 2019 on multiple counts of sexual assault, including two alleged rapes.Rodriguez, a ten-year LAPD veteran, was taken into custody and immediately relieved of his duties. According to the Police Department, Rodriguez was identified as the suspect in a 2015 rape after police received a "cold hit" on his DNA through the Combined DNA Index System, aka CODIS.Detectives began investigating Rodriguez after a woman came forward to accuse him of rape in 2018. That incident led to the DNA hit tying him to the 2015 attack. Both alleged attacks happened while Rodriguez was off-duty. The 2015 attack happened in August when Rodriguez drove the victim to an unspecified location and then raped her, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.Rodriguez had originally pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape when he made his initial ...Inside California Politics: The Race for the Senate

Alien Labs’ Zkittelz strain secured top honors in the new Best Thing Smoking category last weekend’s Zalympix competition hosted by Greenwolf. The new category’s winner was selected by Proper Doinks in a tournament format. With a record-breaking number of participants, this edition of Zalympix attracted more entries than all previous events combined. Alien Labs consistently demonstrated its excellence by placing among the top three or winning various categories in the past. However, this triumph marked their most significant achievement yet, as they added another three trophies to their ever-expanding collection. Speculations arose last week regarding the challenging nature of the competition for Z due to the abundance of Zkittelz hybrids in the mix. Nevertheless, the judges ultimately disagreed, and Zkittelz claimed the highest podium. Their current skid followed a seven-game winning streak.Oakland’s mark through 77 games is the worst in the majors since the Detroit Tigers went 18-59 to start 2003.“We’re going to continue to work,” vowed manager Mark Kotsay, whose team led in every game in the series. “We’re going to continue to grind. We’ve seen some of the benefits with the winning streak we went through. We know we can compete and we know we can win.”Just not on Thursday. The Warriors didn’t win the NBA championship and don’t have the top pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft. But Golden State stole the conversation on Draft day by agreeing to acquire Chris Paul from the Washington Wizards in a trade that would send dynamic guard Jordan Poole back to the nation’s capital.Even with generational superstar Victor Wembanyama’s likely selection by the San Antonio Spurs set to come on Thursday, ESPN’s coverage building up to the draft gave significant time to the Warriors-Wizards trade.JJ Redick said he was “fascinated” by the move, especially in the way that Paul will pair up with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and coach Steve Kerr’s preferred style of offense.“The Warriors are a team that has thrived on body and ball movement — Steph has described their style of play as ‘chaotic,’” Redick said. “Then you think about Chris Paul, how methodical, how controlled, how organized he is. The Warriors have the shortest average touch length in the half-court. Ch...Four-bedroom home sells in San Ramon for $1.5 million

Let Fisher go to Las Vegas but look for a way to put a new team in Oakland. After all, I doubt if Las Vegas gives a hoot about the Streak, Ricky Henderson, the four World Series championships and other memories.Hopefully, one of the many Bay Area billionaires will step up and buy the team from Fisher or petition MLB for a replacement team to keep the A’s in Oakland where they belong.David KurrentPinoleTime for state officialsto get involved in A’sRe: “MLB’s...Letters: Quality of life | Get specific | A’s shame | Search a waste | White noise

Read more Letters to the Editor.S.J. mayor’s plans willboost quality of lifeI listened to the 2023-24 budget discussion on Zoom, and I was heartened by the City Council’s decision to include interim housing for the homeless, albeit less than Mayor Matt Mahan’s request. As the mayor points out, just funding affordable housing isn’t enough because it takes time to build permanent housing, and people suffer in the meanwhile. It’s clearly a matter of doing the humane thing.Following the larger budget discussion has also led to a big “ah-ha” for me: the mayor’s “Back to Basics” priorities to help the homeless, clean up the city and increase public safety are really about restoring the quality of San Jose life and making the city an attractive place for people and businesses. We have no choice: You have only to consider the closing of Westfield Mall in San Francisco and the reasons behind it if you need convincing.Larry KuboSan J...3 arrested on suspicion of alleged gang-related murder in Santa Rosa

(KRON) -- Last week, the Oakland A's reverse boycott organized by fans had a successful turnout -- attendance more than tripled as nearly 28,000 were at the game. The shirt "SELL" thousands of A's fans wore that night on June 13 will now be chronicled in baseball history. The National Baseball Hall of Fame is in the process of adding the t-shirt to the museum, a Baseball HOF spokesperson confirmed to KRON4. Here's how the shirt made its way to Cooperstown.A "SELL" shirt was offered to the Hall of Fame by a fan, and it went through our standard evaluation process for fan-offered materials through a committee of Museum staff. The staff determined that the shirt would be worthy of addition to the Museum collection of nearly 40,000 artifacts that help us tell the story of baseball and its history, and we accepted the offer.Jon Shestakofsky, VP of Communications & Content for National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum(Photo by Brandon Vallance/Getty Images)(Photo by Brandon Valla...Latest news
