Denver migrant encampment near Speer and Zuni to be cleared

DENVER (KDVR) — With hundreds of migrants arriving in Denver daily, officials are looking for more options to house all of them. Meanwhile, a sweep is planned for an encampment just north of downtown that could displace hundreds.A Denver city official confirmed the sweep of a large area near the encampment at Speer Boulevard and Zuni Street, saying it will clear away anything that obstructs any public space. This comes as the city is offering new services to these migrants."I think I don't have more options," said Juan Carlos, a migrant living in an encampment.Tents are spreading across street blocks around the encampment near Speer and Zuni. On these tents, the city of Denver placed notices alerting folks they will be cleared out starting Jan. 3 in a sweep that will last five days."I think they are planning to give something to us, but the thing is, people don't believe in them," Juan Carlos said. A South Florida man is rolling again after thieves swiped his electric skateboard, and he has a local group to thank. Vincent Richardson said he uses his one-wheel as his mode of transportation everywhere he goes. “I do not use my car. I use only my one-wheel; that’s all,” said Richardson. But a routine trip to a Target location in Fort Lauderdale earlier this month was different. Thieves sneaked up on Richardson and took his one-wheel right out of his cart before he got inside. “After he took the board, and I knew that it was gone, depression. I got so depressed, man,” he said. “I’m going like, ‘Man, what am I going to do? I can’t run after him,'” said Richardson. SAN DIEGO -- Surfers took to the waters Thursday amid a high surf warning in San Diego County.Around 4:45 p.m., SkyFOX captured surfers riding the massive waves at Torrey Pines. One surfer was seen catching a wave and then immediately aborting it, catching big air and falling headfirst into the water.
