WACO, Texas (FOX 44/KWKT) -- While Central Texas deals with triple-digit temperatures, there are signs that fall is just around the corner. Students are going back to school, Halloween decorations are in the stores, and it is almost time to buy your annual hunting and fishing licenses.The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department will being license sales on Tuesday, August 15th. 2023 licenses expire at the end of August.More than 2.7 million licenses are sold each year, according to the state agency. The money raised by those sales goes to conservation efforts and other programs.Along with the annual digital licenses, TPWD is also offering Youth Hunting, Lifetime Hunting and Fishing tags, and the Exempt Angler tag. The digital license option is available through online purchase only when licenses go on sale Aug. 15.TPWD is also doing a drawing for three Lifetime Super Combo licenses. (NEXSTAR) – Does it feel like a totally different climate when you go across town? It may be the urban heat island effect. The way a city is designed can make hot weather feel even worse. The temperature on your block is influenced by everything from the number of trees on the street to the color of the pavement. When trees and vegetation (which absorb heat) are replaced by buildings and roads (which can radiate heat), it feels hotter. "The heat island effect can result in significant temperature differences between rural and urban areas," explains the Environmental Protection Agency.Climate Central, an organization of scientists and journalists focused on studying the impacts of climate change, broke down 44 cities into Census blocks to determine which neighborhoods suffer from the worst urban heat effects. In some cities, like Indianapolis, Albuquerque and San Jose, the worst impacts are concentrated in the cities' downtown cores. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man has been arrested following a shots fired investigation, according to police. Zion Gaddy, 22, faces multiple charges. On August 13 at 1:10 a.m., police responded to the area of Morton Avenue and Eagle Street for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located evidence of gunfire, and following an investigation, police determined that Gaddy was responsible for the incident and had fired at least one round at a fleeing car. Gaddy was then taken into custody. (NEWS10) — While Girl Scouts Service Unit 153 hosted its Annual Beach Day, Independent Girl Scout Kailey Charette was able to complete her silver award by presenting the Town of Brunswick with a games-lending library for Brunswick Beach.Jamie Lamora, Service Unit Manager, said she was excited about the news since the project requires about 50 volunteer hours. ST. LOUIS -- Officers responded to a stolen car report in the 1500 block of Salisbury. The victims were two juveniles who were visiting a friend they only knew by a nickname. During their visit, the friend brought three unknown black male teens over to visit as well. At one point, the friend indicated he had to return home. Shortly after he left, the three unknown teens produced guns and ordered the victims to drive them around the city. Near North 20th Street and Breman Ave, they made victims reset their phones and hand them over. The victims were told to remove their shoes and clothes before being ordered out of the car. The suspects fled in a 2004 black Mazda Tribute belonging to a victim. They sought help at a relative's house to call the police. A man was found to be in possession of drugs and a handgun after authorities conducted a traffic stop in Grand Terrace. According to a release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy with the Central Station conducted a “proactive vehicle check” after a record check of the car’s driver – 64-year-old Alphonzo Harrison of Grand Terrace – indicated he had a misdemeanor warrant for being a felon in possession of ammunition. Harrison was stopped near the intersection of Mount Vernon Avenue and Canal Street just before 10 a.m. Wednesday, authorities said.“During a search of Harrison’s vehicle, [Deputy Daniel] Price located a loaded 9mm handgun and approximately nine grams of suspected methamphetamine,” an SBSD statement said. SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) --Firefighters were battling a wildfire on Mount Hamilton Road in the East Foothills of San Jose early Sunday. This was a very visible fire, burning right on the mountaintop in San Jose.Thankfully, a fire station was close to the blaze -- about 10 minutes away. Firefighters were able to put it out before it impacted any kind of structure.The San Jose Fire Department says it was a “Tier 2" wildfire on Mt. Hamilton. The department sent out crews with its strike team, along with Cal Fire also sending out units.The fire burned around 1.5 to two acres overnight. People even drove by tweeting out about it, saying how visible the fire was from the freeway. (KRON) -- A driver died after a crash early Sunday morning, the San Jose Police Department tweeted. The crash happened at the intersection of Story Road and Moraes Court around 5:14 a.m.The fatal collision involved one moving car and a parked car. This is the 30th fatal collision and the 31st traffic victim of 2023, according to SJPD.Traffic going from Eastbound Story Road from S. White Road will be diverted.
