CVS fined millions for selling expired baby food, formula in California

Pharmacy and grocery retailer CVS has been ordered to pay $6.5 million in penalties for selling expired items in its stores, including over-the-counter drugs, baby food and infant formula.On Thursday, Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin announced that his office, as well as 11 other DA's Offices across the state, settled a civil lawsuit against the retail chain. The original complaint was filed in Santa Cruz County Superior Court and alleged that CVS and its subsidiaries had sold the expired items over a span of four years, despite California law that prohibits the sales of formula and baby food past its "use by" dates. The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its active search for survivors of a plane crash off San Clemente Island.The Gates Learjet 36A was carrying three people when it crashed Wednesday morning roughly one mile southwest of the island, officials said.San Clemente Island is the southernmost of California’s Channel Islands and is managed by the U.S. Navy.Coast Guard and U.S Customs and Border Protection crews on Wednesday located a debris field in the area where the plane is believed to have gone down. The search encompassed 334 square miles, the Coast Guard said.A map shows San Clemente Island in relation to Catalina Island, Orange County and San Diego. (KRON) -- A SWAT team is on the scene at a Fremont apartment complex Thursday afternoon in what police are describing as an "active incident." The incident occurred at the Briarwood Apartments located in the 40600 block of Grimmer Boulevard in the city's Irvington neighborhood. Officers and SWAT team members are on the scene. (KRON) -- A man arrested in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Fairfield man at a Safeway in American Canyon has been convicted of first-degree murder, the Napa County District Attorney announced Thursday. Christopher "Roly" Young was charged in the shooting death of Nathan Gabriel Garza in August of 2020. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A man was arrested Wednesday in connection to nine bank robberies in a six-day span, the San Francisco Police Department announced in a press release. In five of the nine robberies that happened between May 3 and May 9, SFPD said the suspect successfully stole cash from the bank.
